Innovating Barrier Free Design

This 2002 built custom boat was, and still is, a pioneer of barrier-free sailing – designed by Nic Bailey to be sailed single handed across oceans by a wheelchair user, Impossible Dream is packed full of innovative solutions and ingenious systems.

The safety and security of the crew was of paramount importance at both the design and build stages. The structural integrity of the hull is beyond doubt and the boat is also unsinkable. The all-important push button control systems on the boat have back‐up possibilities.

ID had an extensive refit in 2010, just before Geoff Holt‘s record breaking sail from Europe to the Caribbean, which made him the first quadriplegic to cross the Atlantic unassisted in sailing.

As a result, he was awarded the OBE and was voted IPC’s 2010 Yachtsman of the year.
