What has ocean plastics litter got to do with us?
Everything! We work in the marine industry because we love our coasts, seaways, oceans and all the life and nature that supports. Plastic pollution is a huge threat to all types of marine life and ultimately also to humans through its consumption.
The beautiful Penninsula where we are based is a designated ‘Site of special scientific interest’ and also a Marine Protected Area. We provide free storage facilities for Rame Penninsula Beach Care and also British Divers Marine Life Rescue and are proud to support them in their work.

Why target fishermen?
Fisherman aren’t being ‘targeted’ but asked if they can come up with any ideas that might reduce the impacts of net repairs. The offcuts produced by net repairs, on the dock and at sea, are known as ‘fisherman’s kisses’. These are amongst the most prevelent ocean litter. The small handful in the picture above was collected from just a 2sq foot area on a local beach last weekend. Every foot of the beach had the same density of plastic pollution. Noticeably worse than last year, or the year before…
Reducing net offcuts is just a small part of the overall problem but we’re happy to support anything to help minimise plastics in our oceans.

Trawler Trash
Trawler Trash is an amazing mural measuring 3m x 3m commissioned by the University of Exeter (Falmouth campus).
The piece started when RPBC were invited to work with a group of 100 Cornish secondary school students on the University’s Environment and Sustainability Day in April 2014.
