Update from Mangata 5
Dazcats really are for everyone!
When Ali and Tom commissioned their accessible family cruising catamaran, Mangata 5 (Dazcat 1295xl) it was a leap into the unknown from many perspectives, yet they were determined to follow their dreams and their instincts. Ali and Tom love sailing and firmly believed their three children, each with special physical, medical and emotional needs, benefit from being on and around the water. The bay around Conwy, the 1295xl’s home port, provides the perfect cruising ground for family adventures with much to see and do. Despite their previous experience being on monohulls Ali and Tom chose a customised Dazcat catamaran as their perfect family cruiser, they would learn to sail their accessible multihull together, gently as a family.

Not quite one year from delivery and we are delighted to have updates from Mangata 5 proving the point that Dazcats really are for everyone – already the youngest family member is taking the helm. The 8 year old who is poorly verbally autistic enjoyed a post Christmas helm up the very heavily bouyed channel into Conwy – possibly a master sailor in the making? We’ve always known that multihulls make the perfect platform for people of all and mixed abilities and the happy smiles from this family just confirm it. They’re having such a great time the boat has stayed on the water over the winter and will come out for the shortest possible pre-seson preparation.
Their daughter has Rett syndrome and has exceptional physical and emotional needs but she loves being on the water. Their eldest, diagnosed with the cancer genetic disorder Fanconi’s Anaemia loves nature and exploring the marine environment. For all of them it’s not only about the boat, but everything that comes with it including the new skills, seashore adventures and family bonding time.
Scroll through the gallery below to see how the family use and enjoy their boat. Dazcat and Multimarine are proud to have made accessible cruising possible for this family on their Cornish catamaran – Dazcats really are for everyone.
